Hello there and welcome to the second challenge for August here at Child's Play Challenges! I'm Steffanie and I'm pleased to be joining Devra in this creative adventure! You will be seeing both of us as editors here on this blog and I can hardly wait to get started. So...shall we?
This week we have a classic book from one of my favorite authors, Eric Carle. As a mom to my two boys, I read a lot of his books to my kids and this was definitely one of them. It was great for learning colors and animals!
First, we have our June winner and Guest Designer:
The brown bear looked like it was paper pieced to me, so I decided to do some paper piecing of my own.
Here is what our design team created along with and a short sentence on how the inspiration piece led them to their layout....
Hi there, I'm Jane living in the land down under (Australia). I've been scrapping now for over 8 years and use my family, travels and everyday life as my subjects of choice. I must also admit to a slight challenge addiction although it's nothing a little more scrapping can't fix!
For this inspiration I've switched the question around a little in my layout title to reflect the fact that it is my then baby son doing all the brown bear gazing!
Hey my name's Adele. I'm a nomad, currently in the United States. I love scrapping my travels, and my nephew. I'm super excited to join the team here at Child's Play!
I went with the "Bear" part of the book. My 1st Grizzly spotting in Yellowstone!
Hi, my name is Heather Millen. I live in Minnesota by the Mississippi River with my boyfriend of 20 years and teenage son. I also have a daughter that is married. I started scrapbooking in 2009 with some coaxing from a couple of friends. Now I know more about scrapbooking than they do. I started out creating for my daughter's album and then tried my hand at making cards after we attended our first ScrapFest at Mall of America. I also like to make mini albums and am just starting to try some mixed media projects.
Bears eat fish so I picked some photos of my son's fishing trips on Lake Michigan.
My name is Stephanie Johnson, and I'm so excited to be part of Child's Play Challenge Blog! I love creating layouts with themes in mind, so this challenge blog is going to be right up my alley. A little about myself, I just celebrated my fourteenth wedding anniversary, have two amazing daughters, two crazy dogs, and am about to start my eighteenth year as a middle school American History teacher. I can't wait to share my layouts with all of you following Child's Play Challenges!
I took this picture at the National Zoo in Washington DC. This patriotic bear traveled with my students and I to Washington in honor of our classmate who passed away unexpectedly in January. His parents asked if the bear could travel with us in his memory. I thought the bear stuffed animal sitting on the bear statue fit the "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" challenge perfectly!
I am Steffanie Seiler and as you may already know, I am assisting Devra as the game coordinator here at Child's Play Challenges. I have been scrapbooking for nearly 15 years. My primary subjects are my two boys but we also have a wonderful cat (see below) and will soon be welcoming a puppy to our home! I have been married for over 17 years and am fortunate enough to have a dedicated scrap room that my husband built just for me---he literally added it onto the 2nd floor of our house! I am a nurse by trade and work part time taking care of moms and their newborn babies.
I took my inspiration from the title and the story itself, replacing the other animals with my own cat and answering the question just as the book does!

Now it's your turn! How are you inspired by this classic book? Is it the geometric art work...the bold colors...the title...the animals? You decide and get creative! Post your link above when you're done. We would love to see how you take on this challenge!
